A Royal Welcome

The First Lady is attending a reception hosted by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace for the heads of state and governments prior to the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games. For the royal occasion, Mrs. O is wearing a "white viscose techno crepe tailored jacket with overlapped side panels and silver embroidery" from the J. Mendel 2013 Resort collection, previously available here, along with a J. Mendel ivory silk satin faced chiffon pleated skirt. Metallic heels and Azaara earrings, available here, complete the gorgeous look.

The First Lady has worn J.Mendel at least once before, for the BET Honors awards in January 2012, seen here

Yes, you can Mrs. O ! Bye bye bling bling ! Just simple, sober, classy... definitely royal ! A minaudière would have been perfect too... SO NICE A STYLE !

Wow! STUNNING! Epic classic design! The outfit exhibits brilliant taste and judgement; the designer's virtuosity in epic derriere coverage leaves me at a loss for words of praise! BRAVO!! A walking billboard for American design!

After the public displays of shopping at Target and wearing off the rack a $6,800 top seems insensitive in light of the current economy.

It's interesting , the Republicans used to be the ones who were considered extravagant and out of touch with the common person, but now the Democrats for all there talk of the 99% are certainly coming across as hypocrites. Having said that it is a beautiful jacket.

Was she supposed to wear off the rack from Target to this event?
Really, I mean no disrespect nor am I being faecetious, but what is the cut-off that would be suitable in these economic times for a First Lady at an event that is broadcast on a global scale? Is it $500, $1000, $2000, $3000, $4000, $5000, or maybe $6000.....just not $6800.

Really, help me understand. She's our FLOTUS. Do we really want her wearing just any old thing when representing The U.S.?

CID...I really don't think your question will be answered by those who are only on this blog to criticize the First Lady and her clothing choices. Where is the Ann Romney fashion blog....some of her supports should consider starting one...

I like the jacketvery much , but something is off with the skirt. Most of us can't pull off the long pleats.

But the haters are missing the point. The jacket is beautiful, it is appropriate for an occasion where Mrs O is representing her country at Buckingham Palace, and probably cost less than a weeks stabling for one of Anne Romney's hairdressers. Sorry, horses. Also, Michelle's married to a rich guy who can afford it. At least she looks nice in it.

I love the look on her face in the top photo - so fresh and enthusiastic. It's like she's thinking, "Holy smokes, this is Buckingham Palace! This is cool!" She's taking it all in. And the outfit could not be more perfect for the occasion.

People need to understand- this is the First Lady of the United States, and she is not going to be meeting the Queen of England in J.Crew! She is representing this country- with class, style, grace, beauty, and a dead on sense of fashion! Willard's wife spends almost $10,000.00 on a T-shirt, but she's not meeting heads of state! Our First Lady should wear whatever the occassion warrants, and forget the crazies who would bash her no matter what she wears! If people are going to vote according to what our First Lady wears every day- then those people need to get a life!
