Pink and Grey

Photos by Charles Dharapak / AP Images

The President and First Lady attended the APEC leaders dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii last evening. Above the first couple is pictured with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his wife Laureen.

On the fashion front, Mrs. O debuted a new frock, a pink and grey off-the-shoulder cocktail dress. Lovely!

Update: The First Lady wears a custom Vera Wang knee length charcoal and stone stretch faille dress with tulip-pink organza draped shoulder. To my knowledge, this is the first time that Mrs. O has worn a Vera Wang design for a public event. The designer took to Twitter in her excitement, writing, "What an honor and privilege to have dressed our beloved First Lady, Michelle Obama."

The outfit is very nice, but it looks like she may have almost had a 'wardrobe malfunction' at some point.

I love how the designers are always so thrilled when she dons one of their frocks. Especially a designer that she doesnt wear that often. When it says she's wearing a custom made, i dunno somehow im always picturing the designer and an assistant coming to the White House to measure and fit their dresses lol! Even if somehow they knew she owned one of their frocks, i guess they have no way of knowing if and when she'll wear them.

No wardrobe malfunction would ever happen in this dress. From all the internet pictures I've viewed, the dress is very well constructed under the beautiful pink draping. What a beautiful First Lady--inside and out! Love her! Love the dress! Love her radiance! Love the work she believes in doing for our country.

Hawaii is warm, tropical off the shoulder is appropriate.

The pink, grey and white are beautiful but I join those that think the pink top could have been
fit better. I see the sarong look, but it moves too much, or something. Remember, we aren't there and pictures can be deceiving.

Vera Wang's tweet is just further evidence that the fashion industry is obsessed with Mrs. O! They all want to see her in their threads--as a stamp of approval or a sales booster. Mrs. O holds that kind of power, yet she's closer to earth than four flat tires.

".....she's closer to earth than four flat tires" That's a good one McKinley, I'm going to steal that one! You are so right. I love how she just goes about her business as First Lady and makes it look so easy, and it seems that she's still having fun while doing so. As for fashion, Vera Wang on our Michelle.......I likey! The color combination is so gentle and elegant. The silhouette favors her frame, hair and make-up on point and her arm candy is not too shabby either.I know some are bothered by the bare shoulder and the dress moves when she moves. She puts to use her own motto, "Let's Move" and it shows.
This dress is going to be on my favorite list for sure!

The dress is perfect for a cocktail party/dinner in Hawai'i. Too sexy? No. However, some of the comments have centered on the way the shoulder piece of fabric slipped as she wore it. Not a fault of Mrs. Obama, but of the designer. Vera Wang, now that you see how your clothes are worn in the real world, not the runway, you need to make some modifications.

Oh my goodness! I almost passed out when I saw the First Lady in this fabulous outfit. This outfit is indeed appropriate. Her face and hair are beautiful, her skin is glowing, and her physical fitness is evident. I can see the love and pride in President Obama's eyes.

And I believe all of the other ladies look very nice as well.

My compliments to designer Vera Wang (Mrs. W), love the colors, love the fabric, and love the sarong affect.

Mahalo and Peace.

Any details on Laureen Harper's dress?

Just a bit of information countries such as Canada, UK and numerous other counties do not have first ladies, it is an American cultural norm. For example Canada head of state is the Queen, her representative is a Governor General who is a lady and then the spouse of the Prime Minister. One brush does not paint all.....I do love your First Lady and your President....exceptional leaders and human beings. I am happy for your country, they came in a time when your county need persons with savoiur faire'
