Lovely in Liz Claiborne

Mrs. O visited U.S. Marine Base Camp Pendleton in California today, wearing a black and white print Liz Claiborne New York dress, paired with a Sacai belt and black flats. The dress was first seen in October 2009, here.
As part of the trip, the first lady visited with wounded Marines, and then later spoke to thousands of troops and their families.

Our Mrs. O wears glasses!!!!! That's so cool. Don't know why I find it cool, but I do. She looks HOT in them too! YAY for 4 eyes! I wear glasses too, and rarely wear them, so it's good to see that she is similar in that regard.
I will never forget when I was in Miami about 5 years ago. Me and my friends ran into a group of European people who were backpacking around America. They were going to the Keys, then heading west. They sounded so excited and it was really exciting to just listen to them map out where they were going in America. As they talked, I paused for a minute and realized I had never experienced 1/2 of the places they were mentioning - and I am American and have lived here all my life.
I bring this up only to say that the world is big, America is big, and whatever opportunities those 2 young girls have to experience the world, we should celebrate it, rather than judge it.
So many comments, so few about FASHION! All this talk about where the Obama daughters should be going is ludicrous. You're going to get the "money" people started again, and just how many experiences do YOU remember from when you were nine years old.....let them be kids, please!
Christen, although fashion is the primary focus of this site--and there are quite a few comments here about fashion--we also frequently digress to other points of mutual interest. I'm not sure why you consider the other posters' comments "ludicrous," but I think the best advice when you see others discussing a topic that's not of interest to you is just to ignore it, unless of course they're being rude or disrespectful, which doesn't seem to be the case here. I don't think we need any board police.
JMH why would you describe a wide black belt as Goth? It's very smart and it's black but that makes it as much New Romantic as anything else.
And I have to admit that I snorted at Christen's pronouncement that black belts are going out of fashion now. You'd better write and tell Miuccia Prada, who sent wide black bejewelled belts out on the MuiMui runway for Autumn Winter 2010-11. She'll be MORTIFIED to hear that she was so offbase. And for the first time too.
More to the point, a skinny belt would have been completely lost in this bold print. Not to mention that the wearer is nigh on 6 foot so it may even have been lost to view.
I was also amazed at Audrey's post celebrating Mrs Obama. Very nicely said but coming from someone who has routinely made scathing remarks about Mrs O's every outfit for months, pardon me if I retain a leetle scepticism.
I also have to make a small point about what Sharon Nelson said about exports. You do not need to raise your export level to create jobs. You need to change the way you perceive wealth. If you live the way that banks tell you too, then the only way forward is to make more money. If you do without banks, you make life about taking care of you, your family, your community. Sorting out your reliance on fossil fuel should be the first thing - that would create thousands of jobs. Mending the horrendous damage to the land would create thousands more. There are a lot of other possibilities outside of making more money.
At last a real woman who wears her wardrobe more than once. She is a national treasure envied by even republican women.
