Walking on Sunshine

Photo by AP Photo/Manuel Balce Ceneta

Between the White House Easter Egg Roll and multiple magazine covers, what a week for Mrs. O! Today the first lady visited the Pentagon, where she thanked military personnel and civilian employees at the Defense Department. Mrs. O was hosted by Defense Secretary Robert Gates and his wife Becky Gates, shown in the photo above.

For the appearance, Mrs. O wore a floral and ombre print dress, paired with a sunny, mustard yellow cardigan. We had a first peek at this dress when Mrs. O visited Miami last October, seen here. How great to discover the interesting change in pattern through the skirt!

I hear you, Lop. That video was attached to the Conde Nast link. I was grinning and cheesing so hard at my computer terminal when I was watching it. I think I would have been beside myself if I was doing the White House tour and ACTUALLY ran into the First Lady. That girl was so taken a back that she had to touch Michelle, she could not believe it was happening and to think that she can watch herself on YouTube. What a special moment.

Michelle Obama reminds me of Princess Diana. She’s so sweet. Michelle is the truth, she’s real. I have an addiction, it’s called Michelle. Hello, good afternoon. My name’s Jestina and I’m addicted to Michelle.

We all adore Mrs Obama but it is not really worth it to be on the defensive and confrontational because of One's opinion. Does it matter really if she has a wig, a weave , an hairpiece or her real hair? Only Mrs Obama, her hairdresser and God will know if she added something. I will recommend you watch a recent show of Oprah (we all know that Oprah has long and healthy hair) in which she said that in order to protect her hair from all the heat of straightening etc she reverse from time to time to weave to allow her hair to rest and cornrow during vacations"
We all enhance our natural Godly beauty using different products and there is nothing disrespectful in doing so or saying so.

Peace to all

As you wrote, LOP, no one except Mrs. O, her hairdresser, and God knows what she does or doesn't do to her hair. If we go down that road, we are all assuming things, and you know what they say happens when we ASSUME things....

Personally, it wouldn’t matter to me whether the First Lady wears wigs, weaves or walks around bald. No one can deny that this woman is amazing. Just look at how the President is absolutely star struck when he’s in her presence.

Like her clothes, her hair does not define her. Take away her beautiful tresses and the nice clothes that she wears and she’d still be the greatest First Lady that I have ever known in my lifetime. Of course, I visit this website because I am truly enamoured of the lady and I get to live out my admiration of her right here. So as long as she presents herself as SHE wants to then I really don’t care.

All I can say is she wears it well. She catches my eye with everything she wears. I love this woman and her family. I hope I get to see her in May while visiting DC. If she could leave the Whitehouse for a shopping trip, I would be delighted to join her. Keep us on our fashion toes.

Mrs. T i hope you can find out who made this dress; i've been intrigued since last October, and i know you were working on it then.

@Mrs. A

Michelle has never worn fake hair, so please tell us exactly how "she has taken the weave out?" Every black women does not wear fake hair. Since she does not get relaxers, why would she wear fake hair?

Can't wait for Michelle's trip to Mexico! I always love it when she goes on trips; she always seems to "step it up a notch" with her outfits.

Touche Jestina - Mrs Obama is positively fantastic and I have no qualms gushing about her and keeping her firmly up on that pedestal. A real natural, she continues to be & stay effortlessly herself - exactly what she's always said in her interviews. I remember her saying in some interview that she always asks friends and family if she's changed - if they still recognize her. She is the best - no question about it.

I haven't posted much here lately because of a proliferation of mostly silly and sometimes unkind comments towards the First Lady that just turns me off, but I just had to jump on here to refute the persistent unsubstantiated claim that Michelle wears weaves, hairpieces, wigs etc. SHE DOESN'T. She's all natural. This is a woman who'd rather brush her OWN hair up in a little bun or put on a headband (both have not garnered much compliments) than put fake hair on her head.

You may be black and don't have hair that looks like Michelle's or your white and think the only time a black woman's hair can look this good is if its fake. Whatever your deal is, MICHELLE'S HAIR IS HER OWN. Yes, black women's hair CAN look that healthy and full-bodied. I know. My hair's like that and I've never had a weave, an extension, a wig or anything fake on my head in my entire life. I'd rather go bald.

So I'm curious - all the folks talking about MO's hair with such authority - you know something we don't know? Seems to me she's entitled to do whatever she wants to do with her hair, and to change her mind about different hairstyles.....

I don't post but I visit frequently. However, I wanted to say that I have the same texture and length of hair like the First Lady and I wear my hair pretty much the same way that she does. Folks are always asking me about my weave, probably because so many African American women are using weaves today. I had a very unfortunate accident recently entering the NYC subway because 2 young thugs grabbed my hair and tugged so hard that I suffered whiplash and had to wear a brace for almost 10 weeks. They thought I was wearing a weave or wig but it is my own hair! All this to say that although I can't say for certain the the First Lady is not wearing a piece or has a weave, I frankly think that it is extremely unlikely that she has ever done so. If you look at Mrs. Robinson you can see where her crowning glory comes from.
