A Day in Paris

Picture by KCS Presse / Splash News
Mrs. O has been to the Pompidou Center today, and is now enjoying a bit of shopping around Paris, seen here. The first lady is wearing the "Lei dress" by Tracy Feith, last seen for a daytime event during the Democratic National Convention in August 2008. Click here to see our earlier post on the dress.
The dress features a bodice of hand dyed cotton and silk, trimmed in strips of metallic shot, tea dyed chiffon and cotton batik. The skirt is heavy linen, with peace lace trim at the hem, hand beaded with tiny beads and sequins, at the hem.

Bevi,
What a cute story of the Rahm sighting by your family! I would love to hear the 'choice remarks' that Rahm made to them. I sure it would make me giggle.
Oops sorry for the multiple post!
Former FL Laura Bush announced her support of Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor!
On another note, I am wondering when Mrs. O will showcase sandals. It's getting to be that time of year, and there are some nice looking options out there.
Oh well DONE Laura Bush!!! Yip yip yippeeyiyay! She's very good isn't she?
Bevi, I think she already is showcasing sandals. Those shoes that she wore for the veterans event were pretty strappy.
Ah.
OK.
One pair.
I'll get me coat.
Now then. Looking at some coverage of the proposed Health Care Bill - who was that man who said Obama's plans will be the end of the finest health care system the world has ever known??!! Does he even *know* there are other countries??!! That was laughable! I mean, the UK has the best health care system the world has ever known because it's free, for everyone, for every illness or condition. In the US you have to pay for the smallest thing and if you're poor you have to choose between food or a doctor! And it's crippling your country financially. May I write: doofus?!
(For those of you who will instantly throw rotten tomatoes at me for not talking about Mrs O's shoes more, I already wrote about them.)
Any idea what MO is wearing in London?
Every site has a M-ean A-nd R-ude A-gitator. Thats life; some folks are miserable.
I loved that green suit! Sometimes green gets a bad rap, so it's nice to see MO in it because it looks great.
Christina, thanks for the heads up on the Times Magazine piece. Although it was very brief, the mention of MO is noteworthy. Senator Baucus, who is going to play a big role in getting health care through the Senate, was seated next to FLOTUS at a White House dinner. Detractors would say they "only" talked about Sidwell Friends School, because they both have children there. But I'm sure the senator was honored to be seated at her side, and that the message was not lost on him or anyone else involved in this process. MO is most definitely a force in her own right, but we all recognize she's also a tremendous asset to Pres O and his agenda.
Posh - Kudos to you for noticing one pair of strappies - that's one more than I did! Regarding your comments on the British health care system: when my daughter visited England a few years ago for a summer school stint In London, she took ill and was taken care of so well that she could not believe it. No muss, fuss, waiting, or financial backlash.
I just read the NYTimes mag issue on Obama's health care initiative per Christina's suggestion. Two things struck me: 1) This administration is going about this initiative strategically; 2) In the end - everyone is wondering where the money will come from.
That said, the author takes pains to show how Rahm and his team are working to involve many members of Congress, not just the few committee heads whom Pres. Clinton tapped into during the 1993 health care push. Joe Biden plays an important role as a listener and as a former trusted member of the Congressional club.
Since Rahm was cited in this article as having a penchant for "profane mockery", I will explain what he said to my boys (not profane, but mocking):
Converting a Republican is a "12-step process" and it's a lot of work.
On my behalf, please don't shoot me as the messenger....
@OperaFanatic: You and I are on the same wavelength. It was just interesting to me to see how Michelle can be, frankly, an asset to be deployed when necessary. I guess that could be a bad thing, to "use" a person. But I think of Barack and Michelle so much as a team that I feel like she understands that this is part of her role now.
And, I do wonder whether later, after all of this is over and the kids are grown and out of the house, if MO might harbor some political ambitions of her own. We'll just have to wait and see!
I love Mrs. O
I love Mrs O
Here you can see the outfit pretty well:

Michelle has amazing fashion sense. A true First Lady icon! I heard details from the Obamas' France trip on my iphone app called White House Brief. For anyone following Michelle, it's a must have! You should get it here! http://www.iheartradio.com
I believe the Tracy Feith "Lei" dress is near-perfect until it reaches the lace at the bottom. That lace is one step too far, and it looks as if Mrs. O's slip is showing. Sometimes less is more.
I love this look. It's an outfit I could never pull off myself, but I think MO does so brilliantly.
Cute dress, but I'm not too sure about the cardigan. Maybe a short jacket would have worked better.
WHAT IS THE SHOE SIZE OF MRS O? AND IF IT IS A 11 WHERE DOES SHE FIND THEM AS I AM A SIZE 11 AND FIND IT DIFFICULT TO FIND NICE SHOES
