Petites Robes Noires

Photo by Pascal Le Segretain /Getty Images Photo by Michael Kappeler/AFP/Getty Images

First Lady Mrs. O and President Mr. O pose for photos with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, her husband Joachim Sauer, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy at the NATO summit. Both Mrs. O and Ms. Bruni-Sarkozy have chosen little black dresses for the event. Mrs. O's dress features a fitted bodice and full skirt - a shilouette we've seen her wear throughout the week.

Update: Mrs. O has added a black bolero to her ensemble.

Update: For those wondering about the designer - Mrs. O wears a knit dress by Paris legend Azzedine Alaia, the New York Times has confirmed. (We must also acknowledge our own Mrs. A, who observed similarity to these Alaia dresses and came to the same conclusion. Well spotted Mrs. A!)

One can't help but draw reference to Camelot here, as Mrs. Kennedy famously wowed the French by wearing Givenchy during her 1961 trip to Paris. Was Mrs. O's choice a thoughtful gesture in respect for her host nation? Based on the amount of planning and thought that has obviously gone into this week's wardrobe, we're of the mind that the answer is almost certainly, yes.

Yes I like that hair style too. The fringe suits her well. Did you notice that she never carries a handbag? This is the best dress ever. SO CHIC !

There are a lot more pictures of Michelle in the Alaia dress here: http://thisweekwithbarackobama.blogspot.com/2009/04/nato-meeting-and-spouses-evening.html

LOVE the bangs! They soften her face so much--they really need to be permanent! She could wear a burlap bag and look gorgeous just because of the amazing glow always on her face.

Like others I'm especially loving MrsO's hair - nicely frames her face, very faltering. Total look is Fierce.

So its seems Mrs O was to visit a hospital today in France but their are the usual protesters out that show up anytime their are these summits so I heard on CNN that her security nixed that visit.

Mrs T I just saw you on MSNBC, Congrats!

Mrs T--way to go on MSNBC! Just watched you you looked lovely and did a fantastic job.

Apparently, according to some post Mrs O the blog was mentioned on the very catty, hateful Times online, the UK newspaper (and its online offshoot) owned by Rupert Murdoch - (New York Post and Fox news!!)

Sort of explains why we have the troll cartel roaming the place and providing links to propaganda sites while furiously whipping up fake "protocol" requirements and authoritatively but incorrectly declaring Mrs Obama's lack of travel abroad and her late father's salary and position at work -

As one who refuses to visit sites that are incendiary and also that which celebrates folks with whom I disagree; I find it awfully intriguing and amusing that there are some who would expend so much energy and time posting on a blog dedicated to a half of a couple they so clearly despise-

One has to be absolutely insane and off their rockers to engage in such negative and unhealthy activity! And by their various posts you can tell they truly are...

I am loving Carla's look today have not been able to see Michelle clearly so far.

About MO:s background. I do believe that she was working class back then. We should all remember that working class in the old days ment decent salary. Now ppl who are working class are making minimum wages, it is part of the growing inequality. And Michelle has said that she noticed that working class this days are poor, compared to when she was growing up. The world has changed, but when she was growing up she and the rest of the world saw her family as working class. And they were right.

It's sad that Sean Hannity and other right wing pundits are reduced to bellowing about Mrs. O's wardrobe choice. It seems that this little blog has to steel itself for broadsides from O haters because of our admiration of all things FLOTUS. Get ready.

I am not getting the point about this working class debate. The Robinsons instilled a strong work ethic in their children, and Michelle credits her parents with guiding her every step of the way. Her father suffered from a terrible disease and still forced himself up every morning to earn a paycheck. I am not understanding how MIchelle's background factors into our discussions. Can someone please explain?

are Mrs O's pants side zipped? Funny that both Carla and Michelle are once again wearing almost similar outfits.

Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 8:29 AM | Unregistered Commentervaldivia

I am loving Michelle's jacket and Carla's coat.

Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 8:32 AM | Unregistered Commentervaldivia

Mrs. O is wearing a very chic black suit. The fabric of the pants seems very flowy. I wonder what it is. And the blouse under the jacket seems to be a flurry of color though I cannot quite tell what it is. It seems to be a white blouse with some sort of ruffle and a colorful scarf that's somewhat hidden.

And Carla looks really nice as well. She is wearing some color, finally. She has on kitten heels and a mauve coat.

First Michelle looks FANTASTIC!!!
This is my first time posting here. I heard about Mrs-O.org on the Today Show. I have loved coming here to look at the pictures of her stunning outfits. My favorite was the black and yellow belted outfit until the black dress. It's simply stunning. I read through most of the posts. I had to stop reading the mean-nonsensical ones. I can do without the negative vibes. Lifes too short. Yes it's a free country, but why waste the energy to post nasty comments. When it comes to my personal opinions about trivial things, I live by the old adage my mom lived by: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

@ javier...im not sure if there is video of her speaking french, but it was reported on CNN, that she speaks fluent french

I like the jacket Mrs. O has on today, and it seems her and Carla S switched on the shoes today (she is wearing little heels, and Mrs. O is wearing flats)

very relaxed, casual look, yet still chic, i like both their outfits...

WOW! Mrs.O should wear her fringe like that more often, so young and sexy looking. I love the outfit, the style and detail is beautiful and elegant. I cannot fault her on this look, from head to toe..... top marks, Mrs O!

My favorite ever! What a beautiful dress!

Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 11:17 AM | Unregistered CommenterDora

I love Michelle's style. I love her elegance and grace and I love her dress. I will like to steal this look. Does anyone have a link to Azzedine Alaia's website or any site where I can look at his collection? He doesn't semm to have a website (strange for a legend...)

Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 11:46 AM | Unregistered CommenterNina

She looks like a diamond! I am speechless, she just looks radiant!

Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 5:27 PM | Unregistered CommenterLA

Can I say SLAM-DUNK?!? It's such a flirty yet elegant look that our First Lady's got going on, from the bangs, to the billowing skirt. I love, love, love the look. Carla who?

Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 9:55 PM | Unregistered CommenterHaitiana4Obama

love this dress and her hair, love love love the bangs!

Sunday, April 5, 2009 at 12:54 PM | Unregistered Commentermerri

It would not have been my pick, but I have to say this looks lovely on her. At first I thought, another wide dress, why does she not wear something more flattering? But it actually looks good on her. I like it with the bolero too- although I am not normally a fan. She definitely looks better than most of the other First Ladies:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/03/first-lady-fashion-at-nat_n_183029.html
although Carla looks elegant as ever, and so does the wife of the Protuguese prime minister.

Monday, April 6, 2009 at 6:32 AM | Unregistered CommenterEllen

By the way, and I have commented before giving Sarah Brown a lot of slack, but these beige shoes are horrendous with that blue/black outfit. What was she thinking? And Hillary looks boring...

Monday, April 6, 2009 at 6:37 AM | Unregistered CommenterEllen

I love both LBDs. Michelle's dress and bolero are great. I also love Carla's purple clutch. I liked first lady Angela's suit as well.
