Showing a Little Feith

Bowing Their Heads

Photo by Donavan Marks / National Cathedral via Flickr user speakingoffaith

On her first full day as the new First Lady, Mrs. O - along with her husband and the Bidens - attended a multi-denominational service at Washington National Cathedral. She wore a dress by Tracy Feith. The dress has a rounded neck, fitted bodice and waist, and a full skirt-a very modern twist on a 1950s silhouette. It also features one of Feith's trademark bold prints. More photos from the service can be seen here and here.

Tracy Feith's clothes often recall his hippie-luxe-surfer background. Known as a maverick who brings an edgy quality to his designs, Feith is currently working on a lower-priced collection for Target. This collection is expected to debut in early May 2009. After the service at the Cathedral, Mrs. O will be hosting an open house at her new home. So we will be watching to see if she will be wearing this Feith dress then. Update: And indeed, she did.

This dress was a dream! I just wish she had slightly better posture. And how much do I love her for wearing Sonia Rykiel?

I have to agree with TooTroo and the few others. Great dress, but out of place. Which does not deter from the fact that she's absolutely fabulous.
And I also have to back up Elizabeth's suspicions: You're not the only one wondering if she's expecting...From what I've read, she doesn't seem the type to let campaign pressures allow the fat to sneak up on her. So, my question is: when was the last time a First Lady was pregnant in the White House? :-)

Birka, from what I can tell, only Frances Cleveland was pregnant while in the White House. JFK Jr. was born after his father was elected, but before he was inaugurated.

Menukjau, I appreciate your comments; I too enjoy the First Lady's fashion quirkiness, and hope that she continues to wear what makes her happy, and what she is comfortable in.

Overall, one thing about this blog that is so sad to see is that often the unkindest and most unconstuctive comments about this lady, Michelle come from the keyboard of other women, and it is exactly the same in the real world where woman-on-woman unpleasantness may just be at epidemic proportions. What on earth is this all about? Jealousy? Envy? Competitiveness? Oneupmanship? Unbelievable.

Overall, I've seen everything about Michelle pulled apart from her height, bottom, legs and jaw (utterly pointless since she didn't make own self, and at the same time is also clearly very comfortable with herself) to her posture and gait (snide comments wouldn't encourage me to change mine any time soon, and will no doubt have the same effect in the case of Michelle, i.e. none.)

With this in mind, Jenna, I hope that the negativity that's sometimes here doesn't make you walk. You're one of the posters whose contributions I really enjoy, so very much hope to continue to see you around these parts.

I also admire the First Lady's fashion quirkiness, and

Michelle needs a stylist!!!!! She should wear more tailored clothing. I expect more. Maybe she could use a few tips from Mrs Mc Cain. She is a sharp dresser. And to think she is representing black women everywhere with those horrid outfits and the hair. Do something with your hair! I'm tired of it.

Sultry Siren, thank you for illustrating so clearly exactly what I was referring to in the post just above yours!

As, I said...unbelievable.

Sultry Siren, ICK! BE GONE with you! And take your rude brothers and sisters with you!

OR, post a picture and lets see if you compare in any way to Mrs. O.

Is she pregnant? What's with the slouch, the belly and the booty? Yech to this look. Liked the white ballgown: elegantly draped, showed off the best feature the toned arms. The 2-piecer lemon-grass was not weather-worthy and it was again ill-fitting. Oh well. Early on in the game.

Chicagoan, Jackie Kennedy was also pregnant during her time as First Lady, but the child, a boy, was born prematurely in August 1963 and lived less than two days.

What happened to Maria Pinto? Okay, not everyone liked her clothes on Michelle, but they never led to this kind of White House bump watch that's happened with the past 2-3 outfits. Unless, of course, she really is, which would be awesome, but I tend to doubt that.

First of all, Mrs Obama ( The First Lady ) can dress how she choices too. Her Clothings is her own business..Her things are nice. WE all have our own personaly picks when it comes to clothing. It's okay to enjoy watching clothings and choice's but we can't lost our heads and start making fun of things and talking about someones hair style. There are more important things to think about. Like the Nation, and tax cuts and business's closing down. It's fun to see fashsion and it can take our minds off problems. But what is the picture. We the people have a right to wear what ever we want. Most of us in American are sharp dressers
and don't just wear gray and black... Mrs McCain has her own style. She is a classic dresser. Some women are more
Modern, or more low key. Remember that is our right as Americans. And who ever talked about getting a stylist I wonder how there hair looks and how they dress daily??

Michelle is an athletic woman. She's in great shape. She IS 45 however, and has had two children, so she's not stick thin. But her body is marvelous. There is nothing "Big" about her.

Everyone can't wear shoes with
heels for long. A wife, business women, mother, now first
lady does not always have time to look like a book walking around for the people who have nothing better to do then
watch others and find things to complain about.

Your right Jenna, the first lady is not big. She is in sharp
perfect 10 Form..

Get use to it America, Higs and leggs like most of us
have.

She is a grown women, not a kid. She has children and looks very young. She is very smart and a professional.

Everyone will not be a size 4 and have a teen little girl body without any curves.

Curves are great!

There is nothing good about a too skinny person walking around looking sick with a disorder.

I felt the vice presidents wife could have been dressed
better. Her clothing looked like she wants to be a teenagers all over again. A short dress with boots.. The 70's are over for her age group. She could put on some pounds to look more heathly. But most of Americans seemed to not see her clothing

Women who were dresses and skirts are real ladies. It's nice to see other women in the Washington looking the part of a real women, instead of pant suits all the time. Nothing is wrong with pants but some women over do it. And seem to down play there real female side. Keep the dresses on and pearls coming. Hat's and matching hand bags, matching shoes the works..

This dress was not appropriate period. Not sure what is going on with her. But I'm totally appalled. It is almost like she is being defiant since her husband won the election, every outfit has been a shambles. And, her posture, demeanor, at the service was surprising. Why didn't she salute for the national anthem? She is the First Lady now, and supposed to set an example for our country. I find that insulting and unpatriotic. Same goes for the Bidens and Mr. Clinton. Shame Shame. Kudos to Pres. Obama and Mrs. Clinton for their love of country and tradition.

I THINK THAT MRS, OBAMA IS A VERY VERY BEAUTIFUL WOMAN, AND SHE HAS CLASS AND KNOWS HOW TO DRESS,

To Patriot....Mrs. Obama does not have to salue for the national anthem. That's for the president and people in the military. Please!!!

I had a lot to say about Michelle's fashion choices, but reading everything here has gotten it out of my system. So thank you all!

As long as she's happy, he's happy, and good policy choices get made-
she can wear whatever she wants, imho.

I just learned that the fabric in the dress is from Kona Bay. Here is my blog post about it:
